Our Approach to Care — Functional Neurology Rooted in Chiropractic

At Meraki Chiropractic & Functional Neurology, we are not a traditional chiropractic office. We are a functional neurology clinic — and chiropractic is the primary tool we use to access, influence, and restore the brain and nervous system. Every assessment we perform, every adjustment we deliver, and every care plan we design is guided by a single, foundational belief: your body was created with the innate intelligence and capacity to heal. Our job is to remove what is standing in the way.

If you have been told your symptoms are something you simply have to manage, or if you have tried other approaches without lasting results — you are never without hope. When we start with the brain, the body follows.

How We See the Human Body

We believe the human body is an intelligently designed, self-regulating, and self-healing system — created by God, governed by innate intelligence, and expressed through the nervous system. It has an extraordinary capacity to adapt, repair, and thrive when given the proper conditions.

The brain is the master regulator of everything. It receives sensory information from the body and the environment, processes that information through memory and experience, and coordinates its responses through the spinal cord and peripheral nerves to every tissue, organ, and cell. Health, therefore, depends on clear and uninterrupted communication between the brain, the gut, and the cells.

The brain regulates. The gut integrates. The cells carry out healing.

When structure, movement, and sensory input are optimal, the nervous system can accurately regulate function, adaptation, and repair. When that communication is disrupted — by any of the stressors we encounter in daily life — the body shifts out of healing mode and into survival mode. Over time, that shift is the root of nearly every chronic condition we see.

Disease and dysfunction do not happen randomly. We believe they occur when interference, from one or more sources, exceeds the body’s adaptive capacity, causing dysregulation at the brain, gut, and cellular levels. The nervous system becomes overwhelmed. The body shifts from healing to survival. And symptoms emerge as the body’s signal that something needs to change.

At Meraki, we assess all seven categories of stress and interference, because lasting healing requires addressing the whole picture — not just the most obvious symptom.

Physical interference includes spinal subluxations, trauma, poor posture, lack of movement, altered movement patterns, and retained primitive reflexes. These distort the sensory input reaching the brain, impair the nervous system’s ability to regulate the body, and create a cascade of downstream dysfunction. This is where chiropractic care is most directly applied — restoring proper spinal alignment and movement to give the brain the clear, accurate input it needs.

Toxins, poor nutrition, and chronic inflammation are among the most pervasive and underappreciated sources of neurological interference. Chemical stressors impair how neurons fire, disrupt the gut-brain axis, inflame the nervous system, and reduce the cellular voltage required for healing. Addressing chemical interference through targeted nutritional support and detoxification strategies is a critical part of restoring brain and body function.

Chronic emotional stress, including unresolved trauma, anxiety, and prolonged fight-or-flight activation, is one of the most powerful drivers of nervous system dysregulation. The brain does not distinguish between a physical threat and an emotional one. When the emotional burden is sustained, the nervous system stays locked in survival mode, suppressing every healing process in the body.

Poor breathing patterns, impaired circulation, inadequate oxygen delivery, and disrupted metabolic function all reduce the body’s capacity to produce energy and repair tissue. Oxygen is required for efficient mitochondrial metabolism, detoxification, and cellular energy production. Blood sugar dysregulation is one of the most common and underrecognized contributors to neurological symptoms — affecting energy, mood, cognition, and the brain’s ability to regulate the body. When these foundational physiological processes are compromised, healing slows — regardless of how many other interventions are applied.

Artificial light exposure, electromagnetic field (EMF) interference, excessive screen use, and disrupted sleep-wake cycles are modern stressors that directly impact the brain and nervous system. Natural light provides critical information to the brain and mitochondria, regulating circadian rhythm, hormonal signaling, and cellular energy production. When that signal is replaced by artificial inputs and disrupted sleep, the entire system suffers.

The body is not only a biochemical system — it is an electrical one. Cells require adequate voltage across their membranes to communicate, transport nutrients, produce energy, and repair tissue. Disconnection from natural rhythms, lack of grounding, and insufficient time in nature all reduce cellular charge and disrupt the body’s energetic coherence. Restoring that connection is an often-overlooked but essential component of deep healing.

We believe healing is more than clinical — it is personal, spiritual, and relational. A lack of meaningful connection, purpose, or spiritual alignment creates a form of stress that affects the nervous system as profoundly as any physical injury. At Meraki, we hold space for the whole person — body, mind, and spirit — because we know that true health cannot be separated from the life being lived.

Understanding the sources of interference is only the beginning. Everything we do at Meraki is guided by The Four Currents of HealingTM — the foundational framework we use to restore the brain and body.

Unlike traditional medical models that treat symptoms one by one, these four currents are not isolated steps. They run simultaneously. As we remove interference, each current deepens, strengthening the others and creating the conditions your body needs to heal at every level — brain, gut, and cell.

Reconnecting the Brain, Nervous System, and Cells

The brain needs accurate, real-time information from the body in order to function properly. When the spine is subluxated, the gut is inflamed, or the cells are under chemical and energetic stress, that information becomes distorted. It is like trying to navigate with a broken GPS signal. The brain cannot respond to what it cannot accurately perceive.

Restoring proper communication between the brain, nervous system, and cells is the first and most foundational step in everything we do. Through specific chiropractic adjustments, we restore spinal alignment and movement, giving the brain clearer sensory input. Through targeted functional neurology therapies, we rebuild broken neural pathways. And through nutritional support, we restore the gut-brain axis — because the gut contains more neurons than the spinal cord and produces the majority of the body’s serotonin. When communication is restored, the brain can finally perceive what is happening and begin to direct the healing process.

Moving from Survival Mode to Healing Mode

When the body is overwhelmed by physical, chemical, or emotional interference, the nervous system shifts into a chronic state of fight-or-flight. In this survival state, the body prioritizes immediate defense over long-term repair. Digestion slows down, immune function becomes erratic, sleep is disrupted, and inflammation rises. You cannot heal when your body believes it is under attack.

Improving regulation means teaching the nervous system how to feel safe again. By calming the vagus nerve, balancing the hemispheres of the brain, and removing the toxic burdens that keep the immune system on high alert, we help the body shift out of survival mode and back into parasympathetic healing mode. This is where deep, restorative rest happens, where digestion normalizes, and where the body’s innate intelligence can finally go to work repairing damaged tissue.

Powering the Cells for Deep Repair

Healing requires a massive amount of energy. If your cells are depleted, your mitochondria are dysfunctional, or your drainage pathways are blocked, your body simply will not have the power it needs to repair itself, no matter how many supplements you take or how well you eat. Chronic fatigue, brain fog, and slow recovery are often signs of a cellular energy crisis.

Rebuilding energy is about restoring power at the deepest level. We utilize advanced therapies, and targeted cellular nutrition to repair mitochondrial function and increase cellular voltage. We also focus heavily on opening the body’s drainage pathways, ensuring that as cells produce energy and clear out waste, those toxins can safely exit the body. When your cells have the power they need, the speed and depth of your healing accelerates.

Building Resilience for Lasting Health

The goal of our care is not just to get you out of pain or resolve a specific symptom — it is to build a body and brain that are so resilient they can handle whatever life throws at them. Health is not the absence of stress; it is the ability to adapt to stress without breaking down.

Strengthening adaptability is the ultimate current of healing. As communication, regulation, and energy are restored, your nervous system becomes more flexible. Your immune system becomes more robust. Your capacity to handle physical, chemical, and emotional stressors expands. We equip you with the lifestyle tools, the nutritional understanding, and the neurological resilience to not just get well, but to stay well for a lifetime.

Most people think of chiropractic care as a solution for neck pain or a stiff back. And while it absolutely helps with those things, that understanding only scratches the surface of what a chiropractic adjustment actually does.

Your spine houses and protects your spinal cord — the main communication highway between your brain and every organ, muscle, gland, and cell in your body. When vertebrae lose their proper motion or alignment (what chiropractors call a subluxation), they create neurological interference. This interference distorts the signals traveling between your brain and your body, leading to dysfunction that can show up as pain, poor sleep, digestive issues, mood instability, hormonal imbalances, immune challenges, developmental delays, and much more.

A chiropractic adjustment restores motion and alignment to the spine, removing that interference and re-opening the lines of communication between the brain and body. The result is not just less pain — it is a nervous system that can perceive its environment more accurately, respond more appropriately, and heal more efficiently.

At Meraki, every adjustment is delivered with this neurological understanding in mind. We assess how your nervous system is functioning, identify where interference exists, and apply specific, gentle corrections designed to restore balance from the brain down.

Going Beyond the Spine

Functional neurology is a specialized field that examines how the brain and nervous system are functioning — not just whether a disease is present, but whether the brain is communicating, regulating, and adapting the way it should. It bridges the gap between standard chiropractic care and neurology, using non-invasive, drug-free methods to assess and rehabilitate brain function.

Dr. Dani is trained through the Carrick Institute and is working toward becoming a Board Certified Chiropractic Neurologist — one of the most rigorous and respected credentials in the field. This training allows us to take on complex, chronic, and neurologically-driven cases that other providers have been unable to help — from severe ADHD and autism spectrum disorders to Parkinson’s disease, dysautonomia, post-concussion syndrome, and undiagnosed neurological conditions.

We do not simply treat symptoms. We look for the root cause — the place in the nervous system where communication has broken down — and we work to restore it.
